Today’s Open Studios series takes us to Athens, Greece where Sophia from Apopsis lives and creates.

My name is Sophia and I am a self- taught crafter. The art was always part of our family tradition and I think that a small portion has been passed to me. Welcome to my Apopsis studio!

I live in a green suburban out of Athens. We have recently moved into our roomy new home, where I had  the liberty to turn a part of it into a studio of my own. I was always dreaming of my studio; more like home, beautiful, relaxed, charming, elegant, and rustic. The style and colors are inspired by the French landscape with a modern twist. The green walls and floral fabrics, family treasures, floral rugs and off white  furniture’s  complete the picture. Simple and sincere, yet effortlessly elegant, satisfying the soul as much as the eye. A place where I can work, dream, imagine, cook and live.

A nook place. Embroidery takes me a lot of time and this is this is a perfect place for that.

Another dear part of my studio is my little kitchen, where I can experiment with my other favorite hobby; cooking, preparing marmalade’s, pastries. I feel happy living among the sweet smell of the fruits bringing to me memories of my childhood! Moreover, I have direct access to my garden where I grow my own herbs and vegetables while I enjoy the warm sun!

My passion  for crafting has started many years ago as a way of diffusing my creativity and energy. Yet,  it is only during  the last years that I have realized the need to focus on creative ventures. I spend most of my spare time experimenting by making things by hand, sewing, embroidering, beading, painting, decoupage, collage, rag rugs, jewellery making and whatever inspires me. When I am in my studio I feel inspired, peaceful, anxious, energized. The wealth of nature is the ultimate gift and inspiration to me!

I am storing my craft supplies in various vintage tins, boxes and drawers.

I am fascinated turning used and new fabrics or raw materials to artistic creations. Finding the potential of each material and turning it in a unique piece of art is my driving force and inspiration. In other words I am expressing “my apopsis” ie. my point of view in my native language, Greek.

My desire is that my work makes people happy. It is pure joy to me when something I have made is cherished as someone’s favorite thing. I believe that in using it, the owner will have more joy and radiate this to those they come in contact with, and that the magic of the deep woods will continue.
